Inguinal nodes in two groups: Superficial group: in subcutaneous tissue about terminal portion of great saphenous vein and paralleling inguinal ligament. Deep group: in femoral triangle deep to fascia lata along proximal portion of femoral vein. VESSELS In general, lymph vessels parallel superficial and deep veins. Those on the dorsum of foot drain medially along great saphenous vein, ending in superficial inguinal nodes, from which vessels then drain to external iliac nodes within abdomen. Those along lateral side of foot follow small saphenous vein, ending in popliteal nodes from which vessels drain along deep veins (popliteal, femoral) to deep inguinal nodes, and then to external iliac nodes in abdomen.
Palmar carpal artery: comes off above wrist; joins similar branch of radial artery and anterior interosseous artery in plexus deep to flexor tendons. 4. Dorsal carpal artery: the ulnar contribution to rete or plexus of arteries on dorsum of hand, from which dorsal metacarpal arteries arise, becoming dorsal digital arteries on fingers (see radial artery). 5. Deep palmar artery: passes through hypothenar muscles to join deep palmar arch; the small ulnar contribution to arch formed by end of radial artery.
Genicular anastomoses are completed by the upper "circle" being joined by descending genicular branch of femoral artery medially and descending branch of lateral femoral circumflex artery laterally; and by the lower "circle" being joined by tibial recurrent artery from anterior tibial artery (see below). Posterior tibial artery: begins at bifurcation of popliteal artery; courses in posterior compartment of leg behind tibia; ends by division into medial and lateral plantar arteries below medial malleolus of tibia.
