Psychologists in prisons have tended to become less involved in this important area of practice, with a shift towards involvement with manualised interventions to reduce the risk of reoffending.

The person is taken to a police station for further questioning under caution, and may then be detained or released on bail. If detained, the person must as soon as possible be charged and brought before a magistrates’ court. The process up to that point is regulated by the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (PACE) and codes of practice issued under the Act.
